Email and social media messages continue to be one of the most common ways for a malicious program to access a business network or system.
Watch out for the following:
- A caller posing as another staff person asking for login information.
- Email sent with confidential information to the wrong recipient, or more commonly, an email with a historical string of emails that has a new recipient added. This recipient should not be privy to content in the earlier messages. Email footers with disclaimers are helpful; however, prevention is best! Proper protocol for sending emails should be practiced.
