What is Telework?
We define it as work completed in an environment other than the employer workplace.
This can include working from a home office for employees and contractors and/or working from any other imaginable environment (hotel, beach, in transit, etc.). Staff are able to Telework from a remote location, on an occasional basis and, more importantly, long-term.
Telework is a fast growing trend. “More than a third of micro businesses now use the internet to enable staff to work from home,” said Andrew Puljic, ABS Director of the Innovation and Technology Statistics Branch. That’s an eight percentage point increase in two years.
Retail businesses can apply Telework to every aspect of internal operations as well as vendors, product knowledge and partners.
There are a variety of terms to describe the process of working from a location other than the traditional office. Common terms are telecommuting, home, remote, mobile, virtual, or cloud working. The frequency with which Telework is being done may also affect the “definition” of the activity.
Many retail business owners will benefit from viewing Teleworking methods and opportunities from both their perspective and that of their workers to enable effective campaigns, communication, agreements, strategies and more.
